This shoot for Gun Fingers marked a bit of a change for me in style. The client had asked for a retro feel to the photos, more 70’s film looking rather than modern. I created some different style filters in Adobe Lightroom in advance and the client chose the one you will see below. Not my taste at all but that is what the client wanted. I much prefer the clarity of style that you can see in another post for the same club here.
This was the first time that I had shot at this venue, Emporium Nightclub, Oxford. Shooting in a new venue always takes a little adjusting to but it didn’t take long to get the feel of the place. The Gun Fingers crew are always great to shoot and the night was very successful.
Addison Groove [Gutterfunk/Hyperdub] – Bristol-based producer Tony Williams played an essential role in introducing Chicago juke into the UK scene. 2010 marked his first release as Addison Groove on Loefah’s Swamp 81 label which instantly became an underground hit. He has since collaborated with Sam Binga and drum & bass veteran DJ Die. Stripped down drum machine beats, acid basslines and hip-hop vocals come together to give a unique and versatile approach to breakbeat.

Dead Man’s Chest [Western Lore] – Originally hailing from Glastonbury, Alex Eveson has been exploring drum & bass since the mid-2000’s, and over the years he’s gained support from the likes of Goldie, Shy FX and LTJ Bukem. In 2014 he emerged with the Dead Man’s Chest moniker. This was a means for him to re-explore his 90’s tapes that so heavily influence his style. A throwback to the classic jungle sounds with a punch-drunk twist, rich grooves and smooth melodies. 2017 marks the beginning of a new chapter for Eveson with the creation of his own record label, Western Lore. Watch this space.
